A crowd waits on the roof of the jacobs school of engineering at uc san diego to walk inside do ho suh s fallen star artwork part of the stuart collection. It sits atop jacobs hall also known as engineering building 1 cantilevered at an angle from a corner of the seventh floor. A small wood frame cottage balances precipitously off the corner of a six story wing of the jacobs school of engineering at university of california in san diego. We ll have a pitched roof with attic space and will look at raised foundations with a crawl space underneath and also slab foundations.

The installation fallen star by do ho suh was commissioned by uc san diego s. The uc san diego stuart collection features one of a kind sculptures by leading artists of our time. We ll adorn each side of the house with two moderate sized windows and a front and back door. The 18th addition to the renowned collection of site specific sculptures at uc san diego is in a central campus location.

The house was built during the fall of 2011. Starting at about 11 30 a m the fallen star house will be raised 100 feet in the air and attached to the seventh floor roof of jacobs hall engineering building unit 1 cantilevered at an angle from a corner. A high wire artistic statement on the anxieties attached to our homes opened to the public at uc san diego yesterday. A lush roof garden of vines flowers and vegetables frequented by birds and bees is a small gathering place with panoramic views of the campus and beyond. The entire sculpture consists of the house cantilevered at an angle from the corner of jacobs hall also known as ebu 1 surrounded by a roof garden. The collection created in 1981 is designed to enrich the cultural intellectual and scholarly life of the campus and community.

For the sake of simplicity we re going to make a one story house with a square footprint. The site specific sculptures that comprise the stuart collection each have a unique story to tell.
